Weathering Märklin freigth car 4423

Märklin 4423 weatheren, according to methode of Sebb’s 1zu87 YouTube Channel

Home English pages

The Märklin 4423 is cheap low side freight car which can be found in almost every starter set. The car is for the price level relatively well detailed, but has still a plastic overall look. The bottom of the car is in real life made from wooden planks but in this model there is beside the seams between the planks no wood structure. There are two possibilities to get a wood looking floor, one is to add a new layer made from balsa wood or the second is to paint a wood look. Here is decided to go for the painted version.

I have 5 pieces of this cheap car and have decide to weather 3 pieces at the same time.

Looking at YouTube I saw a fantastic movie of this from Sebb’s 1zu87 , where he shows in all details how to do from start to end-result. Inspired by this movie I started following this steps to find out if I also could get a satisfying result of a nice weathered freight car. And yes it was a more than one day job but I’m very pleased with the result. Now it would be easy to write here all the steps including used material overview but I don’t, because Sebb did put a lot of effort in making the movies, that everyone who is inspired by my weathering project must first look at his fantastic movies and give a thumb-up for giving him the credits.

Sebb’s 1zu87 first movie to disassemble the car and adding the wood structure to the floor of the car.

Sebb’s 1zu87 second movie all steps of the outside of the car till the completed end-result.

Vielen Dank an Sebb für deine fantastischen YouTube-Videos.
