Scratch Building Station Rosental
Scratch Building Station Rosental at the Rosenbahn;
The main station at the Rosenbahn is as many other buildings a scratch building project. It is a own design with some elements of existing stations. Using the same cardboard as architects normally use for maquette the base of the building is very strong. Other materials are veneer, thin plywood and balsa wood and materials from Auhagen and Evergreen. Directly to the station there become a train platform with a decent length for the passengers train. This main station becomes part of the Rosental village.
Starting with a base from cardboard (picture 1) reinforced with MDF wooden sheet of 8mm thickness makes this a very strong and flat area to add the complete building on top. The MDF wood also prevents the cardboard to warp when it will be painted with the acrylic paint. The next step is to cut out of the cardboard the materials for the building and make 3 separate modules. The cardboard modules are glued together with diluted wood glue (pictures 2 up till 5). The 3 modules will stay separate till they are completely finished and after that glued together to achieve one complete building. The inner ceilings stays removable to make it possible to see the stations interior. The roof will get an overhang and is also removable (pictures 6 up till 10). The window frames (pictures 11 up till 14) are made out of Evergreen Strip Styrene 2 x 2 mm. (type 164), glued together with Humbrol Poly Cement (picture 12). Bit by bit the building will rise and pictures will follow during the building process.
