Sand House with slidable roof sections
Sand House with slidable roof section partly Scratch Build Home Page
The Sand Bunker with the sliding roof is part of the Faller Sand Installation 330906. The Sanding Tower is now demolished and replaced by a Scratch Build model with a double sand box that spans the track next to the locomotive shed. The sand bunker has been raised with a brick wall and got a new color. An extension in the form of a square shed has also been placed. The brick walls are from Slaters Plastikard. This material is very thin and processing is super easy. First the base of the shed is built with cardboard or polystyrene sheet and the Slaters Plastikard walls are glued to it. Special Scratch Build wall lanterns are made for both buildings. These lanterns are built using Evergreen Hollow Polystyrene tube. By heating it, it can be bent without the tube deforming in diameter. The head of the lantern is made of the insulated part of a ferrule on which a wheel of a curtain rails runner is glued. The inside of the head of the lantern is provided with a black paint to prevent light from shining through. Then a white paint has been placed over it as a reflector for a good spread of light. The SMD LED is glued in the head with Crystal Klear from Microscale Industries. This provides a nice diffused light. The light color of the LED is warm white 2700 Kelvin. The whole is colored using Vallejo Model Air, Model Color, Washes and Pigments
