Steam locomotives at Rosenbahn:

English pages overview

BR 081

Steam locomotive of the Deutsche Bundesbahn from era III

This is a typical tank type locomotive for shunting jobs. This series 081 has a lot of similarities with the series 080. This was particulary for compatibility of spare parts which makes maintenance cost efficient and more easy.

The BR081 was a little longer than the BR080 which was visible in 4 driveshafts instead of 3. Outside the use as a shunter locomotive is the BR081 also used as a goods locomotive.

This specific Märklin locomotive is been market as a startset 29852, which was a combination set with 2 loc’s and 8 freight cars. The driving features of this starter-loc are amazing. Loc is accomodate with a DC motor and a modern digital decoder (without sound functions), provide with a nice detailed heavy metal housing in the latest color combination. The front and rear lamps are very clear and change with driving direction. Due to his relative heavy weight, drives this loc extremely well on the rail track and is this loc capable to have a lot of freight cars behind him without having any trouble with him nice motor.

On the Rosenbahn this locomotive will be mainly used as a shunter loc.

BR18.4

Express locomotive with tender of the 18 series.

The series 18.4 starts in era II of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG). The BR 18 series also named as Beierse S 3/6 is one of the most beautiful and best designed steam locomotives in the world. This locomotives are provided with a extremely nice pointed shaped cabin, the conical smoke chamber doors and his powerful cilinder block are very characteristic construction features of this popular loc series. His low consumption of coal and his good driving features made this loc a very desisive type for daily use. The two outer high pressure cilinders and two outside low pressure cilinders are connected to the middle driving shaft. Due to this 4 cilinder driving gear this loc adhieved a good thermodynamic output. In 1960 stopped the use of the great loc type. From the start of the 18 series, a lot of different types where produced.

On the Rosenbahn we have a BR18.4 with very nice painted boiler bands and a gold colored chimney band. The Märklin manufacturing number is 37184 with 3 drive shafts. This locomotive  is equipped for installation of a smoke generator (72270) and is equipped with a sound module (whistle and bell). Motor is a strong 5 pole FX motor with a adjustable high efficiency propulsion and a digital decoder. The sound module is build in the plastic tender and generates a loc whistle and a bell, which can be turned on digitally. Many time we see this locomotive with the matching passenger cars of the famous Rheingold train. This Rheingold train was specific used as a long distance express train.

Unfortunately  the sound module of this BR18.4 from Märklin is not made of the best quality and will be defect easily. The Digital decoder, responsible for driving is a good one and works without any problems. The total length over the buffers of this loc is 24,9 cm.

On the Rosenbahn, this BR18.4 is outfitted  with  3 Express passenger cars of the same Reichsbahn Era. Also a green baggage car is fitted at the end of the train.
